About Pinomar and La Mata

La Mata is a traditional Spanish resort on the Orihuela Costa. It is a lovely place for a holiday home or permanent living as it still has its own original Spanish identity. It is not as commercialized as many of the other popular Costa Blanca resorts and remains a peaceful and tranquil area with a very relaxed atmosphere.

Pinomar and La Mata offer their visitors and residents alike a more tranquil experience than other areas of the coast, yet still enjoy lovely Blue Flag Beaches. Although the Pinomar and La Mata are famous for international tourism and have the infrastructure to cater to all nationalities, La Mata is also popular with the Spanish locals who come from the hustle and bustle of major cities like Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia to holiday and relax in this idyllic unspoiled resort. This gives the town an charming mix of Spanish tradition with a dash of the cosmopolitan that is unlike anywhere else in Spain.

To the west are two picturesque salt lagoons and the Parque Natural de La Mata y Torrevieja. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a resort anywhere in Europe that has as much natural and green space as La Mata and Torrevieja. The region produces its own variety of wine exported all over the world, which you can buy locally from one of the local Bodegas for a few euros. The town's main plaza, which fronts the beach, hosts traditional Spanish fiestas throughout the year and the local services include a wide variety of shops, supermarkets, outdoor cafes, pubs, traditional and international eateries.

The boardwalk is excellent for a stroll with its magnificent views of the Mediterranean and you can stop off and enjoy a seaside glass of wine or dine al fresco all year round. La Mata is easy to get to, only 25 minutes from Murcia/San Javier airport and 40 mins from Alicante airport. It is adjacent to National Motorway N-332 and is adjacent to the city of Torrevieja.
