Las Salinas - Salt Lakes in Torrevieja

A few days ago we wrote a blog about Alicante, about everything you can visit. Today we focus more on the region of Alicante.

Here you will find the lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja, which are among the most attractive tourist destinations in the province of Alicante and the entire region of Valencia. If you decide to visit, you will be surprised by the extraordinary fauna and eccentric beauty.

Laguna Natural Park of La Mata

In short, it has been a protected area since 1994, with an average of 15,000 visitors each year. We are happy to offer the properties in La Mata near the salt lakes.

The salt lake (Salinas) in Torrevieja

Salt lake in Torrevieja. The salt flats of Torrevieja are a great place that is an integral part of the natural parks Lagunas La Mata and Torrevieja.

The salt lakes in Torrevieja are very close to the boundary of the municipality of Orihuela and are characterized by very viscous water, which is due to the high salt concentration. They also have a special pink color, due to special algae that live in the bottom of the lakes and are provided with microorganisms that give this original and characteristic color. For this reason, the salt lakes are also known as the Pink Lake of Torrevieja.

"Regarding the information we published 10 days ago on the Torrevieja Lagoon, we must emphasize that the regulations of the Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja Parks do not allow the mud bath in the lagoon."
There is evidence that the Romans took advantage of the pink lagoon to extract their salts by creating their own canals.

Guided tours of the salt flats and lakes of Torrevieja

Visit the salt lakes of Torrevieja! If you are staying in hotel on the Orihuela coast and want to know more about the lagoons of Torrevieja, you can visit their group visits, which are specially prepared in the high season months.

The Torrevieja Town Hall organizes a series of guided tours of the Torrevieja Salt Flats and the entire Natural Park for the time being only in high season (from June to October).

The sightseeing starts at Paseo de la Libertad in Torrevieja in the symbolic tourist train and then goes to the heart of the salt mines, where you can enjoy the characteristic salt mountains, crystallizers, old chemical complex and forklift on a pink lagoon that is famous for its beauty and attractiveness Remembrance will remain.

There you will be surprised by the most outstanding sights of the Natural Park as a whole. Among them is the Acequión of the Torrevieja lagoons (passage through which the salt pans were exploited since the 13th century), the Pinada (rest stop), the remains of the ancient Torrevieja and its magnificent observatories (El Zampullín, La Cigüeñuela, "El Fumarel", "La Avoceta" and "El Chorlitejo").

You will also find the most interesting routes that are usually taken in the park, such as the yellow route (on foot), the red route (very typical of cycling) and the wine route.

You can also visit the recognized trails of the Mata-Torrevieja Natural Park, ideal for a walk at any time of the day.

A very characteristic entrance to the pink lake of Torrevieja leads over the well-known greenway, where the sunset walks are very popular. From there you will find a dirt road that leads you to the salt pans of Torrevieja.

The wildlife in the Natural Park Torrevieja, La Mata

In fact, the lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja are one of the huts that house a characteristic and rich marine fauna.
